I have experienced the beneficial effects in my own life, as well as study the science and research behind meditation and how it changes our brain, biology and transforms our thoughts and in turn our lives. Neuroscience has proved the benefits of meditation through countless experiments and brain scans on buddhist monks and other meditators. The brain is like any other muscle in the body it needs to be exercised.
WHAT CHANGES TAKE PLACE DURING MEDITATION?
Meditation helps us regulate our internal states independent of the outside environment or conditions. Based on brain scans and heart coherence measured at the Heart Math institute, the heart beats coherently when you start to feel love, grateful, inspired, which produces an EMF and that energy carries information, so this electromagnetic signature surrounds the body which changes our emotional state. When we change our energy we change our health.
If you are in flight or flight mode with adrenalin and anxiety from a supposed threat or stress from your external environment you have little or no energy to do the repair or growth work in your internal environment.
BRAIN WAVE STATES
DELTA - catatonic restorative sleep very little brain function/REM sleep
THETA - before falling asleep conscious mind is awake and the body is asleep (This is where the most healing will take place!)
ALPHA - relaxation and imagination / think less see more
BETA - over stimulated with outer world and awareness / in hight beta this is fight or flight
GAMMA - super consciousness / brain is aroused from inner event or experience with significant changes in a short space of time

Meditation allows the brain to slip into alpha/theta easier which sharpens mind function and brings clarity of mind. And of course in this brain wave state healing and transformation takes place at the cellular and mental levels.
Ideally we want to be in alpha or theta brain waves to allow for coherence and transformation to take place. We know now through epigenetics it's not our genes that create disease but environment, and emotions are the end product of our environment. So by elevating our emotional state, we can signal the genes ahead of environment and change the gene expression. The brain signals the body to believe it's living in a different state. The cells don't know the difference between inner and outer world.
When the brain is in high beta it is over stimulated and overactive with thinking, trying to control and predict everything taking place which can become obsessive and narrowly focussed on negativity. This high beta state can also become biologically addictive. We must get beyond this analytical mind to penetrate the unconscious mind. Our mind is 5% conscious and 95% unconscious.
HOW DO WE GET BEYOND THE ANALYTICAL MIND?
- Slow the brain waves down with meditation (hypnosis/affirmations/mantras and other examples can be used).
- Reprogram unwanted thoughts and behaviours
However, this all depends on how suggestible you are (how you accept believe and surrender to information)! Because if your mind is overly analytical then you will need to work much harder.
Studies have proven thoughts that heal and improve genetic expression and health are: LOVE, GRATITUDE, INSPIRATION, JOY FOR LIFE.
Research has shown when the mind focusses on infinite space instead of objects, people, time or things the brain waves go into coherent Alpha which is when the brain is more organised and begins to synchronise, and you feel more whole connected and trusting.
